Clean reset: GYEON QM TotalRemover strips waxes and coatings reliably
When do I need a TotalRemover, and why isn’t an IPA wipe enough?
Isopropanol (IPA) degreases a surface and lifts oily residue plenty for the final check before a coating. What IPA can’t do: fully strip cured carnauba wax, synthetic sealants or older coating layers. For that you need something like GYEON QM TotalRemover formulated to chemically dissolve waxes and sealants and carry them off the panel completely. Only then is the surface genuinely ready for a fresh seal.
Every time you lay down a new coating or wax, the same question comes up: how clean is the surface really? Wax residue, old sealant layers and leftover coating films have a big say in how well a new seal bonds and cures. GYEON QM TotalRemover is the no-nonsense answer: a dedicated product that reliably dissolves and strips waxes, sealants and existing coating remnants for a truly clean starting point before you re-seal.
- Full removal of existing seals: TotalRemover dissolves cured carnauba wax, synthetic sealants and older coating layers for a chemically clean surface that makes no compromises on bonding.
- Prep for new coatings and sealants: only once the old seals are fully gone can a new coating bond and cure properly TotalRemover sets up exactly that.
- Easy to apply, thorough in effect: apply with an applicator or microfibre cloth, let it dwell, wipe off no hard scrubbing, no aggressive pH values that could harm the paint or new coatings.
Detailing1’s tip from Daniel: always work TotalRemover on cool, shaded paint and go panel by panel don’t try to do the whole car at once. After wiping off, run a final check over the area with a clean microfibre cloth and a few drops of isopropanol: the cloth has to stay clean, with no oil or wax smearing. Only then is the panel truly ready for the new coating.
Why the prep underneath decides everything
A coating is only as good as the surface under it. On a surface with wax residue, a new SiO coating won’t form a full bond you end up with patches of good and bad adhesion that show up later as uneven hydrophobics and premature coating failure. Waxes and sealants carry oil components and release agents whose whole job is to stop dirt and moisture sticking but that same property stops a new coating bonding properly too.
GYEON QM TotalRemover is formulated to dissolve those oil and wax components and lift them off the paint without leaving residue of its own or stressing the paint chemically. The result is a surface that’s chemically neutral and gives a new coating the best possible bond.
How to use it for the best results
Put QM TotalRemover onto a clean microfibre applicator or cloth and work it onto the cleaned paint. Go panel by panel, give it a 30 to 60 second dwell, then wipe off with a clean microfibre cloth. Don’t wipe in circles straight passes lower the risk of smearing residue around instead of picking it up.
After the TotalRemover step, wipe the area down with a fresh microfibre cloth and an isopropanol-water mix (about 50:50) this final IPA wipe confirms full removal and preps the surface for the coating. The cloth should come back completely clean. If any residue still shows up, repeat the TotalRemover step.
TotalRemover before re-coating
The classic case: a car comes in for its yearly check, the old coating is worn and due for renewal. After wash and decon comes TotalRemover, to strip the last of the old coating completely. Then polish if needed, then fresh coating. This workflow makes sure the new coating goes onto a truly clean, chemically neutral surface.
For cars getting a new GYEON coating like Q Coat or a similar ceramic coating, TotalRemover is a step you can’t skip in the prep workflow. GYEON QM WetCoat, on the other hand, is a wet seal you apply after the wash even without a TotalRemover step here the prep underneath matters less than it does with cured ceramic coatings.
Difference from an IPA wipe
IPA (isopropanol) degreases and lifts loose, oily residue. What IPA can’t do: fully dissolve cured waxes and sealant polymers. Those compounds are chemically stable against isopropanol. Only a purpose-built remover like TotalRemover, designed around the solubility of wax ester bonds and polymer sealants, can strip those layers off completely.
IPA still matters as the final check after TotalRemover the two together are the gold standard for coating prep. TotalRemover strips the main layer, IPA confirms the surface is clean and neutralises any trace of the remover itself.
Anchored in the detailing workflow
TotalRemover sits in the prep-product category it isn’t a care product as such, but a tool for a professional standard of surface prep. In day-to-day detailing it comes out whenever a re-seal is planned with the highest demands on durability and bonding.
For cars run regularly on wax or sealant that are now switching to a long-term ceramic coating, TotalRemover is the decisive first step. Paired with GYEON QM Tar for organic contamination and a thorough decon wash, it sets up the best possible starting point for lasting paint care.
